FedEx deliveries slow with Omicron variant surge, severe winter weather

The Omicron variant and severe weather continue to wreak havoc with FedEx deliveries.

“The explosive surge of the COVID-19 Omicron variant has caused a temporary shortage of available crew members and operational staff,” the company said in a statement.

Severe winter storms, especially near the company’s international air hub in Memphis, Tennessee have required FedEx to implement contingency plans and adjust operations to reduce delivery disruptions, Reuters reported.

Rival UPS said employee absences due to COVID have not impacted their services, and contingency plans are already in place, according to the wire service.
