Delta Named Best U.S. Airline, Spirit Ranks No. 2, According To New Report

Delta Air Lines is the best U.S. airline, a new report by a personal-finance website says.

It’s the second consecutive year Delta was named No. 1 by WalletHub, which studied each airline’s delays, baggage issues, safety and other factors. Spirit Airlines ranks No. 2 in this year’s report.

Delta is also the most reliable airline, because the carrier has the lowest overall rate of cancellations, delays, mishandled luggage and denied boardings, WalletHub says. The next most reliable airline is United Airlines, according to the personal-finance website.

JetBlue Airways is the most comfortable airline for passengers, WalletHub says. The airline “leads the pack in terms of in-flight experience, offering free amenities such as wi-fi, extra legroom and complimentary snacks and beverages,” WalletHub concluded.

Delta, Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are tied for No. 2 in passenger comfort.

WalletHub names Envoy, a regional airline owned by American, as the safest airline. The carrier, WalletHub says, has a “low number of incidents and accidents per 100,000 flight operations, no fatalities and fewer than 15 people injured between 2017 and 2022.”

In another report earlier this month, WalletHub named United Airlines’ MileagePlus as the best frequent-flier program for consumers. Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan finished second, and Delta’s SkyMiles third.
